Oil color isn’t always an indication that the oil needs to be changed.  I believe you are saying that you have gone from conventional to synthetic oil this time and have not added any MMO.  What does the manufacturer suggest for oil change intervals?

It is standard practice to suggest 3,000 mile oil change intervals at fast change oil places.

That really depends on the condition of the engine, your driving habits, etc.  I would go with what ever the owner’s manual suggests at least to begin with.

i talked to chrysler service dept they said on synt oil 6000 miles, that just because its synt oil you should not go 7000-10000 mile between oil changes .
how do you know when the oil needs changed? is it by the color. or is the oil thinner. how do you tell when that oil is worn out? without testing it.

Without doing oil analysis we’re all just guessing.

Ditto on that.

I run group 4 synthetics in my “get to work car” (mostly highway miles) and do 10k to 12k oil changes or 1 year using good synthetic media oil filters. If I use the hydo-cracked synthetic oils like Pennzoil, Valvoline, Quaker State Etc. I change at 7.5k or once a year. My wife’s car rarely gets 5k a year put on it so I go with the cheaper synthetic oils in it. I always use good synthetic media filters as I don’t trust cardboard filters for that long.

Anything below group 4 synthetic oil is really not true synthetic oil but is allowed to be classified as such. Do a web search on group 3 vs group 4 synthetic oils.

I always put MMO in the oil about 2000 miles before my next oil change to flush it out.

Before I knew anything about extended drains or using MMO I switched my wifes new used car from Pennzoil to Pennzoil Platinum.  Ran three 3k ocis with it and now to this day the engine looks brand new inside. So my answer is start with a couple short intervals then slowly up the mileage.

As far as color every time I changed the oil it took longrr to get dirty.
