A good brand of full synthetic and a Purolator Pure-One Filter. Are you planning on running extended oil changes?

If you’re going to change every 5000 miles or less, you don’t need anything more than a group 3 synthetic. That being said, running better group 4 or 5 synthetics won’t hurt but is rather a waste if you’re changing that often. Check your local Auto Zone, Advance and O’Reilly’s and buy whatever good oil is on sale with a good filter. Valvoline SynPower, Mobil-1, Pennzoil Platinum, Quaker State Ultimate Durability, Catrol Syntec, etc. Catch it on sale with a good Purolator Pure-one, Mobil-1 or Bosch filter. Using a good synthetic oil and changing at the intervals you’re talking about, you won’t need to put MMO in the oil. A good synthetic will keep your engine clean by itself. Use MMO in your fuel all the time to help offset the problems with ethanol laced fuel.

What I would do is, before you change over to synthetic oil, run a regular 3000 mile oil change with 20% MMO to clean out your oil passageways. I had a problem with my daughter’s Probe when I switched over to Amsoil. The car was in the 85,000 mile range and had been neglected by the previous owner. When I switched to Amsoil, it knocked sludge deposits loose that clogged an oil passageway and started a valve ticking. A mechanic suggested putting MMO in and within 2 days the ticking was gone. The Amsoil cleaned the engine too well, too fast. Just a heads up for you. I don’t like messing with the additive package of a good synthetic oil unless you are running it at extended change intervals. Good luck and keep us informed.

Yes, then over several OCI’s slowly wean off of it(if your gonna use full synthetic). I would continue to use it in your fuel.

Doesn’t that vehicle spec 5W-30?  I think my ma’s has 5W-30 stamped on the oil filler cap......

Personally, I’m a fan of SuperTech’s full synthetic oil, I’ve seen some good UOAs with it in use.  Also, keep an eye on your filter, if the tap doesn’t go away after a while, consider switching to another filter.  I’ve heard that some filters can be “noisier” than others.....no idea why, if the filter is “restricting” the oil flowability or whatnot.....but something to think about.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I think I hear less noise all ready. But then again my wife says I can’t hear at all, go figure.

My van as we speak has 277,000 miles on it and I use rotella t6 and MMO and it stays in there for 8 k miles or more, usuall 10k oci.  No engine problems yet and I run the u know what out of this van, 318 v8.  Im Laredo now,,,was 80 degrees,,got a cold snap now 60, lol.Its nice here,,,,,no snowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. lol

Full synthetics have some additives in them to help clean the engine but, I still run MMO with Schaeffers in my truck. I think I put that down just as a suggestion for him.

Still have the tick at start up then it goes away.Only put about 1200 miles since the oil change Don’t know should I change early and go to the syn oil and MMO or just wait it out. Maybe some Sea foam?
