Has anyone used MMO with Schaeffers oil? I recently switched to Schaeffers 7000 15-40 in both of my vehicles......haven’t added any MMO yet but, I can tell a difference with this oil.....has alot of good properties.

If you go thicker, you risk wearing out your valve guide seals at the least, and valves at the most. Staying with the recommended oil viscosity, except high mileage, seems to work well. I went 185K on 10-30W, and it still did not need additional oil between changes; but I smelled oil at startups near my exhaust. O/W, its running like a new truck, except with Lucas stabilizer added to high mileage oil. My engine is set, and just try to replace components with the best quality I can afford at the time (I get a few go wrong about every 75K, especially in mid-FL heat). Hopefully, I’ll have less go wrong now that I’m an MMO convert!!

Yes, thicker oil feels better for a brief time, but keep an eye on your exhaust at startup. You will soon see blue clouds coming from your exhaust!

Is your diesel a powerstroke or cummins or duramax? 15-40 is recommended for my truck. My injectors completely rely on High pressure oil to function properly. The Schaeffers oil is pretty darn good for start-ups and extended OCI’s. As far as Lucas products.......eh...I was told to stay away from that stuff.......many testimonials about Lucas entrapping air in the oil on another forum I go on. Just trying to find out if anybody uses MMO along with the Schaeffers.

I did not know both of your vehicles were diesels, and was extrapolating concepts of new technology valve designs on gas engines; even though, I know about the high compression requirements of diesels. And about the specific Lucas oil additive, carb/FI/gas additive, and power steering fluids too, no one told me anything: I experienced them successfully myself. I am real cautious about anything I hear on the web, especially if it is in chimed in groups. The only way to know anything is to try it, assuming it is a safe alternative. There are so many shades of gray, there is ‘no’ absolute truth.

It was mainly pointed towards my ford. Going to switch the durango over to schaeffers soon. The durango is not Diesel....it’s a gasser. Your right about the shades of gray.....but, I still lean to MMO vs. Lucas. Thanks for the input. cool smile

For unleaded fuel additives, MMO is required for lubrication. All others have a range of application utility. But diesels are a whole different world I do not want to investigate. Good luck.

I use Schaeffer’s oil on a regular basis, I have added MMO to this oil a few times. I haven’t experienced anything but good results. I usually do around 15% capacity when I use MMO. If you’re wanting to add it to your diesel, I imagine it takes what, 15qts? If you added 2qts of MMO to the sump, it would be right around 13% of its capacity. Or, 3qts MMO would be exactly 20%.

Also, alot of people add MMO at the end of an OCI, like the last 1000 miles or so. However, with such a large sump, you would have to remove some oil so you don’t overfill it by alot. You could remove the filter and drain some that way, although I’m not sure how much oil that removes.

Hope I’m on the right track here and you were asking about MMO in Schaeffer’s oil smile

Yep...I just recently changed my Powerstroke over to Schaeffers.....I was told Schaeffers is pretty darn good oil and keeps your engine very clean....so far my truck turns over alot quicker than when I used rotella....runs smoother. I’m probably gonna try a UOA first without MMO....then my next OCI use MMO and do another UOA and compare results. Yes, my sump holds 15qrts. Thanks.

I believe the Schaeffer’s 7000 is a full synthetic oil.  If you plan on using this oil for extended drain intervals, I would add MMO to the fuel to treat the fuel side of combustion chamber.  Although MMO is compatible with all oils, if you are using Schaeffer’s oil based on product claims or warrantees, we would prefer you use MMO in the fuel only at this time. I would use MMO in the oil only if engine sludge begins to appear or if the oil blackens severely.

well, the stock injectors for my truck are 90cc injectors.....I have 250cc injectors in my truck and the oil will turn black within 1k miles. When I had stock injectors....the oil would not turn black till around 1500 or so miles on the oil....now with the power upgrades....the oil gets blacker...sooner....not worried about it too much since I do have UOA’s done regularly. I will post results when I get them.

Schaeffer’s 7000 is actually a Synthetic Blend; Grp II + 20-30% PAO. Their 9000 series is the Full Synthetic version.

Yes you’re right Superduty, Schaeffer’s makes a good oil and you sound like you have a good plan.

+ 1 on avoiding Lucas. People don’t realize the harm they are doing to their oil (and their engines) by using Lucas. Lucas takes a perfectly good engine oil and causes it to foam. Check out the case study on Bob is the Oil Guy.

HA! HA! Yeah, that’s the site that convinced me not to use Lucas.

Only 16oz of MMO was put in for the last 200 miles. I should have the report next week. I know I said I would do it without but, I felt compelled.
