I am trying to understand how the addition of a “lightweight oil” - MMO, can help reduce/clean carbon formations in an engine.  My limited knowledge tells me that the addition of any oil in the gas will burn with more of an inherent carbon residue than gas alone.  With the recommended mix ratio of 8 oz per 20 gal is 320 to 1, just how does this help reduce/clean the combustion chamber of deposits??  OR does the above mixture burn a bit “hotter” thereby enabling the “cleaning action”??

My concern is driven with using MMO in a new 08 RAM 5.7 MDS....

Thanks for any explanation you may be able to provide.

As you may know today’s fuel injected engines run a a higher temperature.  This high heat causes the resuidual gasoline in a engine to evaporate quickly forming carbon deposits.  Using Marvel Mystery Oil prevents this quick evaporation of the gasoline and keeps any resulting carbon deposit soft and easy to remove.  Usually, when the engine is re-started, the flow of gasoline through the engine will remove these soft carbon deposits.  Without the Marvel Mystery Oil, the carbon deposits become very hard and difficult to remove requiring the use of a high cost fuel injector cleaner.
