I have a 2006 Jeep with a Hemi and I mostly do highway milage.I’m using Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 and I would like to know if I can run MMO with Pennzoil Platinum for 7500 miles? My concern is that MMO might thin out the oil for that period of time. Thanks Joe

Marvel Mystery Oil is approximately a straight 5 W oil.  If you only use about a pint of Marvel Mystery Oil, it will not thin out the Pennzoil Platimum and is will still be in grade.

I just did an oil analysis running castrol edge and MMO. The oil was spent in about 5700miles. I know all engines are different but i would not recommend running MMO and a synthetic for that long, or get an oil analysis done at around 5k to see where you stand.

When you said that the oil was spent, what did you mean?  On studies that we have done, the TBN (Total Base Number) of motor oil was cut in half in only 1500 miles, and was nearly gone in 3000 miles.  Anti wear and viscosity range stayed in spec a lot longer.  So, if your TPN was depleted, it was not from using Marvel Mystery Oil, it just that that is the additive that used up first.

The TBN was at 1.8 when I had close to 6k miles. I have posted the UOA here in the last week. The synthetic I was using was Castrol Edge.

who did you use for UOA? even though my vehicle is not a gasser, blackstone told me that a TBN of 1. is too low for my truck. Did they say anything about that, or anything simillar?

Here it is, 20% replacement MMO, 5796 miles on oil. Not sure why the copper count is so high.

Alum 2

Chromium 2

Iron 5

Copper 6

Lead 1

Tin 0

Moly 69

Nickel 0

Mang 0

Silver 0

Titanium0 0 0

Potass 1

Boron 17

Silicon 15

Sodium 6

Calc 2413

Magnesium 11

Phosphorous 680

Zinc 719

Barium 0 0 0

SUS Viscosity 55.2.....should be 56-63

cst viscosity 8.84............should be 9.1-11.3

flash point 395................should be >365

fuels % <.5..................should be <2.0

antifreez 0 %

water 0%

insoluables 0.4..................should be <0.6

TBN 1.8

Blackstone Comments:
The increases in wear we found are pretty normal considering the oil stayed in use. The only reason copper is highlighted is because
it’s now twice universal averages. This may show a little extra wear at brass and bronze parts, but we’re not
overly concerned about it yet. Low insolubles and silicon show good oil and air filtration. The TBN dropped
to 1.8, so the active additive is getting a little low. Add another 1,500-2,000 miles to this oil and check back.
Looks pretty good at 191,731 miles.

gs300tx, it would be interesting to do the same test with a different syn oil. I’ve noticed that Edge’s TBN retention doesn’t seem to be great. Maybe try this with say Pennzoil Ultra?

UOA looks good BTW.
