In the old thread The List I transcribed the uses suggested on the back of the 4-ounce can of “Marvel Lubricating Oil” (MM005) I bought around 30 years ago. MM005 was discontinued some time ago, but as Rich Kelly explained in the threads The mystery of MM005 and Sewing Machines, MM005 was nothing other than MMO in a little can.
In addition to the list of uses on the back, the little can of MM005 proclaims it to be the “world’s fastest penetrating oil” and “fast acting air tool oil.” Without realizing it, I’d been using MMO as a light-lube and penetrating oil all those years, and been quite satisfied with it. I described a little “field experiment” I did in the thread MMO as penetrating oil. There are anecdotes from other posters to that thread, too.
I believe I heard the Car Talk guys recommend squirting a bit of MMO into the upper cylinder of a lawnmower engine as part of “winterizing” on one of their shows—similar to using it as a “fogging oil.”
Do NOT use MMO as a drain cleaner, as a liniment, or for deep-frying food—especially turkeys.
